Jacksonville man honors fallen officers in Hampton Roads

13News Now Chenue Her has the story

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- As Gary Fogle from Jacksonville, Florida puts it, he's not a man of many words.

But, his Camaro he bought in 2013 gets plenty of people's attention.

He's a fairly quiet, modest man who told 13News Now, "I'm a maintenance man. That's it."

He drove his Camaro hundreds of miles to meet Adam Dibble in Norfolk

A friendship this warm, it's hard to guess it started two months ago when Adam cold messaged Gary on Facebook out of the blue.

It was pictures on Gary's Facebook caught Adam's eye. The pictures were of the hood of Gary's Camaro honoring fallen officers.

"I didn't know he was all the way in Jacksonville," said Adam.

Gary's response was simple.

"When do you want me there?" Gary asked Adam.

Adam got to pick the names on the car. The names range from Trooper Chad Dermyer to Officer Brian Jones to K-9 Krijger. Their names surrounded by dozens of signatures of current officers.

"It means a lot to me to keep the names alive and in the front of people's minds," said Adam.

Remembering and honoring is Gary's mission. It's a vision he said he didn't always have.

"Let's just say I got a speeding ticket, right? I'd blame them," Gary told 13News Now of his old attitude toward law enforcement. But, after a conversation with the widow of a fallen officer, everything changed.

"It's...I don't know...that one conversation, that did it," said Gary.

That talk a year ago has driven Gary to now donate four custom hoods to different law enforcement agencies from Florida to Virginia. This one, he's donating to Adam, who'll figure out where it'll be displayed in Hampton Roads.

"I don't know. I'm addicted to it now," he said.

It's hard to put into words, but Gary doesn't need to do too much talking to show he supports the blue.

The car will be at Neptune Park in Virginia Beach on November 5 at 11:00 a.m.
