Prison inmates donate $53,000 to Hurricane Harvey relief

AUSTIN, Tex. -- As Texas continues to recover from the devastation that Hurricane Harvey left in its wake, many people have been wanting to help with relief efforts, including prison inmates around the entire state.

According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, inmates donated a portion of their commissary money to the tune of $53,000 to help rebuild Texas after Hurricane Harvey. The money went to the American Red Cross.

According to the TDCJ, inmates donated the money to the American Red Cross from Aug. 31 to Sept. 30.
