CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- The New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation is hosting its first annual Black Tie Scholarship Gala next week.

The event will feature live music, dancing, food and adult beverages. In addition, the event will honor the achievements of former Chesapeake mayor and longtime teacher Dr. William Ward.

The New Chesapeake Men for Progress Education Foundation is a charitable foundation founded in 2010, whose goal is to improve the quality of life for Chesapeake’s youth through programs, educational services, scholarships, and mentoring.

The group has provided more than $30,000 in scholarships and grants since 2010-2011. They also have a School Supplies Program that provides school supplies for low-income students, whose families might not otherwise be able to afford them.

The Black Tie Scholarship Gala will take place Friday, Nov. 11 from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Marriott Chesapeake on Woodlake Drive.

Tickets for the event are $60. All proceeds will benefit the NCMP Education Foundation Scholarship Fund.
