Flag ceremony, family fun, fireworks at 'Fourth at the Fort'

Interview: July 4th Fireworks at Fort Monroe

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- You are invited to enjoy Independence Day festivities at the Fourth at the Fort event. 

The event begins with a flag ceremony at 10 a.m. 

Featured speaker will be Elise Harding Davis, noted African Canadian historian who will discuss the effects of James Monroe’s Rush-Bagot Treaty in 1817 on the Underground Railroad and the sanctuary the new border with Canada created for freedom seekers.  

Food vendors will be onsite at 5 p.m. Family friendly activities will be available from 6 to 8:30 p.m. 

USAF Heritage of America Full Spectrum Band will perform at 7 to 9:15 p.m. 

Fireworks will shoot off from Mill Creek at 9:15 p.m. 

Throughout the day, the family friendly activities will feature the 100th Anniversary of NASA Langley Research Center.
