(ABC NEWS) -- Dad Lawrence Asuncion is helping his little Optimus Prime win at trick-or-treating this year. He spent six hours building an awesome "Transformers" costume for his 4-year-old son, Lawson, that actually transforms.
“He loves it,” Asuncion, of Oradell, New Jersey, told ABC News. “I had to tell him that I was still working on it so he'd take it off, and he wanted to sleep while wearing it!”
The creative dad even added LEDs to “light him up for trick-or-treating,” a feature that the father will reveal this weekend. But this isn’t little Lawson’s first rodeo dressing up as a "Transformers" character.
“He started with the Transformer: Bumblebee, but when his little brother was born, he ‘graduated’ to being the leader, Optimus Prime,” said Asuncion. “I had gotten him the cloth store-bought costume and he loved playing and pretending while wearing it. To me, Halloween was the best time to showcase my craft. He requested that I build his costume because he'd seen me making my costume for the New York Comic Con months before.”
The hardest part about making the costume was “making sure he still had mobility and didn't have any visual impairment,” his dad explained.
The most rewarding part?
“Seeing how proud he was of the costume,” said his even prouder father. “Even before completion, he walked around in just the cloth costume with me and said, ‘We're going to be the coolest ever, right, daddy?’”
