Workplace Woes – Roze Knows®

Dear Readers:

Just like the November 28th column, I’m continuing to shine a light on your positive work and customer service experiences. It never gets old hearing your stories about individuals who have made you feel good about your workplaces or about those people who have given you exceptional service. They’re not only heartwarming but encouraging as well.

Although I will soon be going back to addressing your workplace woes, don’t stop emailing me (roze@rozeknows.com) your positive experiences. I will make sure not to wait for the holiday season to share them with you.

Here’s to our continued positivity!

I can only say good things about Ya Ya Asian Gourmet in Norfolk, VA. I have loved every lunch and dinner I’ve had there, and the service is the best. Every dish has been hot and delicious. And I especially like the way each meal is always made to order with quality chicken and fresh vegetables.

The owner, CiCi, and her servers, Isaac; Eric; and Nicole, have always been very friendly and eager to please in any way they can. They even remember our names and what we usually order.

Gaga for Ya Ya

It’s that time of year for new year resolutions and fitness is always a popular one, which makes it a perfect time for me to give props to my fitness coach, Denise Overton in Tampa, FL. She not only coaches me at the gym but when I can’t make it there, she works with me online as she does with so many of her clients. Her discipline, determination, strength, and kindness in her coaching have helped change my life over the last two years. Before I started working out with Denise, my energy levels were nominal. Mentally I wasn’t satisfied, and I wasn’t improving with my workouts. Because of her style of training, I have a healthier lifestyle and feel better than I have since I was a teenager. I’m physically stronger, mentally sound (my wife might make an argument for relativity here), and definitely more optimistic. I’ve had an infusion of courage and confidence to face fears and new challenges, and I’ve lost 25 pounds in the process! I’ve even completed several triathlons and I'm training for my first Iron Man next year.

To say Denise has been critical to the changes in my life would be an understatement. She has motivated me to do things I would have never considered before, and for that, I will always be grateful.

Forever grateful for my trainer

My car broke down a few weeks ago. I decided to use Uber to get work. When my co-workers found out about my situation, so many of them offered to take me home and to get me to work while my car remained in the shop. When I told them they didn’t need to do that, they insisted on helping me out.

This may seem like nothing to most people, but in this world where everyone seems so self-absorbed and too busy for anyone but themselves, it really made me feel good to see my co-workers in a different light. I will never forget what they did for me. I hope I will be able to return the favor someday.

Co-workers come to my rescue

I have to brag about Lori, my hairdresser in Midlothian, VA. She’s been in the hairstyling business for over 35 years. She’s not only a super hairstylist but somehow she has remained such a positive, caring person who goes out of her way to comfort others and share her special smile.

I just had my Christmas cut with Lori, and she not only gave me a fabulous ‘do and treated me like a queen, but I also saw how much she cared about every single person who entered the salon and everyone who worked there too. She went out of her way to make those clients who appeared on edge to feel more relaxed with her special smile and attention. And she comforted the other hairdressers by bringing them water or even a cookie along with her signature smile. And she was sure to give the same thoughtful attention to the salon’s receptionist. I heard her tell the young girl how much she appreciated her and all that she does for the salon, all with her signature smile. Our world needs more people like Lori.

So happy with my heavenly hairdresser

Being in my retirement years there's one thing my friends and I like to do and that is eat. Finding good places to eat and sometimes do a little drinking isn't very hard to do in the Tampa Bay area. But finding that and good people at the same location is sometimes rare. Two places I have found enjoyable with the noted combination is AJ’s on the River in Gibsonton, FL and Above the Salt in Tampa, FL. They have two completely different atmospheres but both have the nicest owners and great customer service.

We always feel so welcomed once we walk in the door at both establishments. The owners always come to our table to let us know how happy they are to see us. And the servers are not only on the ball and very friendly but they also never rush us. If you're

ever in the area please give them a try. I like trying out our small local businesses, and these family-owned eateries have never disappointed me.

Family owned eats are fantastic

My mother passed away earlier this year, and I was so surprised to find out that my boss, so many of my co-workers, and even quite a few of my clients came to the funeral. They also sent me cards and flowers and plants and even made donations to the American Cancer Society in her memory. It meant a great deal to me.

Touched by my work family

I want to praise the staff, and especially the manager, of the Norfolk, VA T.J. Maxx. It’s a very busy place but the people who work there are never too busy to answer your questions or help you find something. Vernice Price, the manager, is very accessible and has obviously set a great example for her staff. Recently, I had a situation when I was checking out and the cashiers, Kira and Phyllis, were so patient, understanding, and thoughtful. They went out of their way to make me feel comfortable, for which I will always be appreciative.

Norfolk T.J. Maxx is terrific
