Why you should get to know pumpkins better

Doctors at Cone Health want you to know the healthy side of the versatile fruit.

Greensboro, N.C.-- Love them or hate them, we all have an opinion about pumpkins and what to do with the fall fruit.

We carve pumpkins, decorate with them, have pumpkin-flavored drinks and yes, make pies with them. And those awesome pumpkin-colored fashions makes fall so much fun.

Now, doctors at Cone Health want you to know the healthy side of the versatile fruit. Yes, pumpkin is a fruit, not a vegetable. Tuesday at Cone's Women's Hospital a pediatrician and obstetrician spent the morning pushing the healthy power of pumpkins and the babies got cute pumpkin-colored caps made by volunteers.

They say the fruit is loaded with potassium, magnesium and vitamins A and C, which is especially good for babies, children and pregnant women.

This brain burning news comes just at the right time: Thanksgiving and Christmas, which is when a lot of pumpkin pies will be consumed.
