Holiday traffic causes headaches in Hampton Roads

As millions of drivers across the country hit the road for Thanksgiving, they will likely encounter traffic.

(WVEC) -- As millions of drivers across the country hit the road for Thanksgiving, they will likely encounter traffic.

"I just get frustrated," said driver Penny Richards. "Very frustrated."

More than 1.4 million Virginians wil hit the road this Thanksgiving holiday, according to AAA. The day before Thanksgiving is considered one of the busiest travel days of the year.

Driver Kyley Ference said her frustration lies with I-64.

"There's people coming this way, people coming that way from the base and they're hitting and it's just bumper to bumper. Stop and go, stop and go, stop and go."

According to VDOT, lane closures on the interstate and major roads will be suspended until noon Monday, the 27th.

Driver Bobby Lee Austin Jr. Said he was about to embark on a 6.5 hour drive to Atlanta but said the impatience of other drivers can be frustrating.

"Everyone's trying to get home but they don't just take into account that we're trying to get home just as much as you are," said Austin.
