Firefighter treated for heat exposure while battling house fire

Dispatchers said they got the call just before 3 a.m. Monday to a two-story home after someone noticed smoke rising from the building.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Firefighters were able to put out a fire at a home on West Little Creek Road at Cedar Level Road early Monday morning.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exposure, and is under observation.

Little Creek Road is closed in both directions, near Wards Corner just west of Granby Street.

Dispatchers said they got the call just before 3 a.m. Monday to a two-story home after someone noticed smoke rising from the building.

There was significant smoke and fire damage to the entire building, rendering it uninhabitable. The fire was declared under control at 4:13 am.

Firefighters on scene tell us nobody was home. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
