Long-time clothier closing at the end of the year

"Richardson & Nash Clothiers" in downtown Suffolk is closing its doors after December 31.

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- "Richardson & Nash Clothiers" in downtown Suffolk is closing its doors after December 31.

Bobby Richardson and Scott Nash, the dapper duo of "Richardson & Nash Clothiers" have owned the shop for about 20 years. Before taking over, they worked for the previous owner.

The two have fitted generations of customers since they've been on Main Street.

"We've been able to cultivate family relationships through three generations which is pretty unique," said Nash.

They've come to cherish the unique relationships, which is why hanging the "closing" signs and "Half off" signs was one of the toughest decisions these partners and childhood friends had to make.

"We talked about it for a while. We've been talking about about 2 or 3 three years figuring out how to do this," they said.

With sales declining, competing with the internet and a younger generation that's dressing up less, Richardson & Nash said the business has changed.

"Like any business, there were the headaches but they were balanced out by the relationships, by the people," said Richardson.

Until closing day comes, they'll still have the chance to soak in the final moments. While some of those relationships may come to an end, their story continues.

"The emotions it brings up is sadness but excitement at the same time for a new chapter," said Richardson.

He said he's looking into moving to the Eastern Shore to be near his kids and grandchildren, while Nash said he will look for work around Suffolk.
