WILLIAMSTON, N.C. (AP) - The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a woman has died after being trapped in her burning vehicle.
The patrol told multiple media outlets that 61-year-old Linda Creswell of Robersonville was driving west on U.S. Highway 64 Alternate east of Robersonville on Monday when her SUV ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree in front of a home.
A state trooper said Creswell was alive, but the people inside the home couldn't get her out before the SUV caught fire.
Investigators are trying to determine why the SUV ran off the road.
