ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina coastal town is under a boil water advisory after a sample showed E. coli in the water.

Local media outlets report the advisory issued on Friday for Atlantic Beach means all of the town's restaurants are closed until further notice.

Town manager David Walker said the advisory tells residents to boil water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes or for food preparation.

Jenkins said once the boil water notice is lifted, restaurants may reopen immediately.

Motels and hotels are allowed to stay open as long as they notify guests, shut off water fountains and ice machines, and provide guests with bottled water and hand sanitizer. They also must discontinue continental breakfasts or provide pre-packaged meals.
