Joe's Job: Orthotic & Prosthetic Services

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- So there I was walking into the lab at Reach Orthotic and Prosthetic Services in Newport News and was blown away by what I saw.

Technicians giving new meaning to the phrase rebuilding lives. Literally. Bill Lord is a prosthetic tech and he himself wears a prosthetic on his leg.

"Piddled around with various jobs till I met a guy in Indiana who was making me a leg and asked me if I wanted a job," he said.

And that's how he got started.

On this day, Jacqueline Myrick was testing out her two new legs. The double amputee has a close knit family.

"And they mother me a lot and I let them know I am very independent. I live alone. Do my own cleaning. My own shopping. I'm good," she said.

John Robb does all the hiring here.

"They must be detail oriented. Conscientious. Go getters! Folks who understand the people that we are dealing with,"  he said.
