19 cats, kittens adopted from Catnip Cat Cafe in Norfolk

The Catnip Cat Cafe in Norfolk helped 19 cats find forever homes within the first seven weeks after it opened.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Cats Galore!

In total, 19 shelter cats and kittens have been adopted from the new Catnip Cat Cafe.

In the past 48 hours, five have found a new forever home.

The motto they have at 2200 Colonial Avenue is "Adopt, don't shop."

All of the cats available are from local shelters in the area and are spayed/neutered and even vaccinated.

Norfolk SPCA and Billy the Kidden Rescue provide cats to the special cafe to freely roam the 2,000 sq. ft. of space 24/7.

At anytime the cafe can have 10 to 20 cats ready to be taken home.

How the Catnip Cat Cafe works is visitors make reservations, sign a waiver, and receive a complimentary beverage as part of your reservation fee. Then you enjoy the presence of the adorable, adoptable cats.

Reservations are $10 an hour per person. They are highly encouraged because of the limited number of spots available per hour.

Drop-in are welcome as availability allows.

This cool cafe does have a few rules, all guests must sanitize before entering the cafe, all guests must sign a waiver, do not mistreat the Catnip Cats, and do not feed the cats human food.
