19-year-old man charged in Newport News homicide

Police are investigating a double shooting that left one person dead and another injured.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Police are still investigating a double shooting that left one person dead and another injured.

The shooting happened just after 6:30 p.m. near Deputy Lane and Old Courthouse Way Thursday.

19-year-old Kamron Drake Kerr was arrested and charged with one count each of first degree murder and malicious assault and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. 

Kerr is being held at Newport News City Jail.

When officers arrived they found two people who had been shot. One man was pronounced dead at the scene and the other  was taken to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries. 

The deceased was identified as Marvin Gordon, 18, of the 300 block of Circuit Lane in Newport News.

The surviving victim is a 16-year-old Newport News male and remains in the hospital at this time.

Warrants are on file for Kerr's brother, Kyle David Kerr, 19, that lists the same charges his brother is facing.
