Surfer dies while in the water at The Outer Banks

OUTER BANKS, Va. (WVEC) -- A 66-year-old man died while surfing Thursday. 

The man was found floating face-down in the water just north of the village of Radanthe at Cape Hatteras, National Seashore. A surfboard was attached to his ankle. 

People walking by found the man. They pulled him to shore and began doing CPR. 

When Dare County Emergency Medical Services, Chicamacomico Banks Water Rescue, and National Park Servie rangers arrived they declared the man dead. 

The cause of death is unknown at this time.
