Cable cut near Hatteras Island, residents without cellphone, internet service

CAPE HATTERAS, N.C. (WVEC) -- A fiber optic cable was cut near Hatteras Island Wednesday afternoon, leaving people without cell phone or internet access. 

According to Century Link, the cable was damaged around 3 p.m. 

Some residents are still able to use land lines, but all cell phone and internet services appear to be inoperable. 

If you need to call for help during an emergency, please locate a public safety official for help. 

It is unclear how long this outage will last.
