Cable technician arrested after allegedly stealing jewelry, hitting two people with car

GLOUCESTER COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) -- Sheriff deputies have arrested a cable technician after he allegedly stole more than $200 in jewelry and hit two people with his car. 

The incident happened on Wednesday in the 2800 block of Hickory Fork Road. 

According to the homeowners, the man was working inside their home when he stole more than $200 worth of jewelry. When the residents confronted the man, he hopped into his car and drove away, hitting two people. 

One of the people was treated and the scene and the second victim was air-lifted to a local area hospital. 

Police arrested Christopher Gutman for the incident. 

Gutman has been charged with Grand Larceny, Hit and Run, Driving Suspended, and a Fugitive from Justice. He is currently being held at Gloucester County Jail without bond. 

Cox has made the following statement: 

“We're aware of the situation.  We will cooperate with authorities on the investigation.  Christopher Gutman is not a Cox employee, however he is employed by a company we contract with. We take our customer safety very seriously.  We are working with the contractor to address the matter.”
