Carjacking, car chase in Chesapeake ends in Norfolk crash

Carjacking incident in Chesapeake led police on a chase that ended in a crash in Norfolk on Wednesday.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- Police were led on a car chase from Chesapeake into Norfolk after a carjacking.

Early Monday morning at 12:10 a.m., police responded to the 7- Eleven at 1700 block of South Military Highway.

According to police, the female victim was sitting in the passenger seat of a car in th parking lot when an unknown black male entered the car on the driver's side, showed a handgun and told the victim to get out of the car.

The driver of the car was inside the 7-Eleven at the time of the offense.

The victim got out of the car and the suspect drove away.

Officers noticed the vehicle driving northbound on I-464 and attempted to conduct a traffic stop at Poindexter Street.

The driver, Jeffery Lee, 53, refused to stop the car.

The vehicle then went into Norfolk and struck the apartment complex at the 700 block of South Main Street. 

Th suspect attempted to flee on foot, but was quickly apprehended.

Lee was charged with Armed Robbery, Grand Larceny, and Felony Eluding.

Norfolk police are now handling the incident.

No further information was released.
