Hampton students give thanks to their community

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Students at Bethel Christian School in Hampton are starting Thanksgiving week by giving back.

They fanned out around the city, thanking first responders giving back to their community. It's a part of their day of service.

"It's a great time to be thankful, and the one thing we want to instill in our young people here is to have a grateful heart," said Principal Robert Brinkley.

Little kids wrote first responders thank you notes, while older students planted flowers at the West Hampton Community Center.

"God created the world for everybody to enjoy, and we're just helping," said student Makayla Hesselbach.

Students also sang at a retirement home, cleaned up Sandy Bottom Nature Park, and lent a hand at a food bank.
