Family of three loses home in 2-alarm fire

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- Two adults and one child were displaced after their home was destroyed in a fire Friday afternoon.

The fire happened in the 1100 block of Sanderson Road just after 2:30 p.m.

When crews arrived they found heavy fire coming from the small two-story home.

The fire was upgraded to second alarm and more crews were called to the scene because of the extreme heat conditions.

The home was located in a part of the city that does not have a municipal water system. Water was shuttled in by other engines and tanker trucks from Virginia Beach and Currituck County.

Crews battled the heat from the flames and the extreme humidity, but the home is a total loss.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital after suffering a heat-related illness.

No one was injured in the fire, and the family has made temporary living arrangements.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
