15-year-old boy found shot to death in Newport News church parking lot

13News Now Niko Clemmons spoke with the pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church about the shooting.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) – Officers found a 15-year-old boy shot in the head and left to die in a church parking lot Friday night. Now, police are searching for the boy's killer.

Newport News Police found the victim at Macedonia Baptist Church on Marshall Ave.

Members of the church are trying to make sense of the violence right outside their door.

Reverend John Wilson is the pastor at Macedonia Baptist Church. He has served at Macedonia for 30 years and was the youth minister at one time. Reverend Wilson says he was devastated after hearing the news Saturday.

“We have to see this as a call to arms so to speak,” Reverend Wilson says. “Where we have to do more and to help our youth.”

Reverend Wilson already had a sermon prepared for Sunday, but after the incident he ended up preaching another sermon. That message title was called, “Light a Candle."

“I thought it was appropriate because of the darkness that comes out of an incident like this,” Reverend Wilson says. “We have to use this as energy to do more, because we have to light the candle and keep it running.”

Pursuant to State Code 19.2-11.2, police are not able to release the victim's identity.

There is no suspect information or description available now.
