Burglar crashes through the roof of convenience store in Va. Beach

Virginia Beach Police are looking for a robber who dropped in on convenient store

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- A man burglarized a Virginia Beach convenience store by crashing through the roof.

On October 26, around 5 a.m. the Market Express at 1901 Independence Boulevard the roof came crashing in.

The suspect gained access into the building through the roof, ultimately crashing through the ceiling tiles inside the building.

"I was in shock," said Owner, Harry Patel. “He kind of cut first, I guess the roof. He cut with a knife.”

According to workers, the suspect took cigarettes, more than $3,000 worth of lottery tickets, and $500 in cash before leaving through the back door.

That's when the alarm went off, according to workers.

Patel said he believes the suspect did not act alone, but police haven't confirmed they are looking for someone else.

“Because there is no way one person gets to the roof by himself,” said Patel.

The suspect was described as possibly white or Hispanic, about 25-35 years old, 5'10-6'2, and 150 to 170 pounds. The suspect has a slight beard and mustache.

Officials said the suspect was last seen wearing cargo shorts, a hooded sweatshirt, and a knit cap/ ski mask.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Virginia Beach Police Department's Investigative Department at (757)385-4101 or at the crime line 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
