Dog shot in Franklin, deputies looking for person responsible, owner

FRANKLIN, Va. (WVEC) -- Southampton County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a shooting that left a dog without a leg. 

On November 15th at around 4p.m., deputies received a complaint of someone shooting at deer near the area of Monroe Road and Crater Drive. 

The caller also allegedly stated that a dog was injured by the gunfire. 

Deputies found the injured dog and took it to be treated at an after-hours veterinarian in Chesapeake. 

The dog's front left leg had to be amputated. It is currently recovering at the Chesapeake facility. 

While arrangements are being made for a foster home to care for the animal, officers are trying to locate the owner.
