Family of alleged gun and drug traffickers indicted

A family accused of trafficking guns and drugs across Hampton Roads is indicted

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A family accused of trafficking guns and drugs across Hampton Roads has been indicted.

A total of nine people face a list of charges.

According to court documents, the ringleader is Alex Burnett. He's facing several charges, including conspiracy to distribute drugs and conspiracy to launder money.

Also charged in the case include Burnett's parents, Robert and Shirley, as well as his girlfriend, Eleonora Paronuzzi.

Court records show the suspects were involved in the trafficking of cocaine, heroin, and guns for cash.

Alex Burnett is the co-owner of 9Rounds Gym in Peninsula Town Center in Hampton. Prosecutors say he used the business for drug deals.

Court documents reveal Burnett inherited the distribution role of the "family business" from his brother Rico Burnett, who is in prison for the attempted murder of a police officer.

Five of the people charged face up to life in prison, if convicted.
