Former ODU employee charged with child pornogrophy

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A former Old Dominion University computer science department employee has pled guilty to receiving images of child sexual abuse.

Christopher J. West, 33, of Virginia Beach distributed child pornography to an FBI agent working undercover in 2016.

On April 20, the FBI searched West's apartment after his IP address linked him to the child porn downloads.

He admitted in an interview that he used a file sharing program to download the videos from the internet.

According to court documents, forensic analysis on the electronics seized from West's residence determined that he had multiple videos on his devices.

West pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography and faces a mandatory minimum of five years and a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

He is expected to be sentenced in February of 2018.
