FORT EUSTIS, Va. (WCJB) -- A Fort Eustis-based soldier has been arrested in a Florida cold case rape, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said.
Deputies said 26-year-old Timothy Epps was arrested November 7 in Fort Eustis, where he serves in the U.S. Army.
Epps' DNA was reportedly matched to the 2009 rape of a 67-year-old woman in Marion County, Florida. Deputies said he pretended to be a law enforcement officer when he knocked on her front door. Epps allegedly threatened her with a gun, raped her, and stole $50.
Marion County Sheriff''s Office spokesperson Lauren Lettelier said, "We want everyone to take a good look at all of the details of this crime and to see if they have anything else that matches this in their jurisdiction and for the public to come forward to see if they have been a victim of this person."
Deputies especially want you to notice how much his appearance has changed from year to year. Detectives believe it is highly likely that Epps has committed similar crimes. He has lived in Florida, Missouri, Kentucky, and Virginia.
Epps faces charges of sexual battery with a deadly weapon, burglary, and impersonating a police officer.
