Hampton Police call shooting that injured man 'isolated incident'

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police say a weekend shooting that landed one man in a Hampton hospital with multiple gunshot wounds was 'not a random act of violence'.

Now, authorities are working to track down the suspect(s) behind the incident.

We're told this happened Saturday night around 10 p.m. in the area of the Century Plaza apartment complex in the 100 block of Lassiter Dr.

Officers were dispatched to that location to respond to a shots fired complaint, but on the way, the call was upgraded to a shooting.

Police arrived to find a 23-year-old Newport News man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident, but don't know the exact motive or circumstances at this time.

We're told the victim was uncooperative with investigative efforts and there were inconsistencies in his version of how the incident took place.

No other details have been released at this time. There is no suspect information.

Anyone with any information about this shooting is asked to call the Hampton Police Division at 757-727-6111.
