Inmate who swallowed bags of drugs is sentenced

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- An inmate at the Virginia Beach Jail has been sentenced after investigators say he swallowed a bag of drugs and then retrieved them after being booked into jail.

Zachary Creekmore was sentenced on the following charges:

  • Burglary: 5 years, with 3 years suspended
  • Possession of Burglary Tools: 3 years, all suspended
  • Destruction of Property: 2 years, all suspended
  • Grand Larceny: 5 years, with 4 years suspended
  • Possession of a Schedule I/II Controlled Drug (2 counts): 6 years total, with all but 6 months suspended
  • Possession of marijuana by an inmate: 1 year, all suspended

The suspensions were based upon the condition of good behavior for eight years and indeterminate supervised probation.  His driver's license was also suspended for 18 months and he was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $330.

It is a total of 22 years with 18 years and 6 months suspended with 8 years of Good Behavior and Indeterminate Supervised Probation.

According to police, Creekmore had been arrested on outstanding warrants back in January. Drugs were not found on him when he was thoroughly searched at booking, however, a bag containing several smaller bags of marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy were later found in his cell.
