NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) – They were caught in the act.

Three people are in custody after police say they broke into a home on Dorsey Road Monday afternoon.

22-year-old William Simpson, and two 13-year-olds.

Police are also linking the three to several car burglaries in the city.

Police found a gun during the arrest, a gun that was reportedly stolen from a car at City Center.

Police believe the three broke into several cars this past weekend in the City Center parking garage.

All three are charged with burglary.

The charges involving larcenies to the cars are pending.

Michael Holland says it was a frightening scene at Kingstowne Apartments.

“It was uncommon for me to see that kind of activity out here considering the neighborhood is not a bad area,” Holland says. “It's concerning to me because I'm raising my family here and it's not something I want them to be exposed to.”
