Man accused of assaulting Hampton officer

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Hampton Police say they've arrested a man for allegedly assaulting one of their officers.

Police were called out to a suspicious person complaint shortly before midnight Wednesday night in the 400 block of Lee Street. The homeowner told officers 25-year-old Daniel Gerard Clark was trespassing on the property.

Police say they made contact with Clark, who had been standing on the front porch of a home, when Clark punched an officer several times with a closed fist. The officer was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Clark has been arrested and charged with one count of assault and battery of a police officer. He remains in Hampton City Jail.
