Man charged with manslaughter following crash that killed 84-year-old man

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Police have charged a 60-year-old man with felony involuntary manslaughter in relation to a crash that took place in April and killed an 84-year-old man.

Calvin Coolidge James, 60, was arrested on Monday and indicted on a charge of felony involuntary manslaughter.

On April 17, 84-year-old John E. Groves was driving a Ford F150 in the 3300 block of Holland Road/Route 58 when he attempted to make a right turn and was struck by a semi-truck.

The collision caused Groves' truck to slam into a home. 

Early reports indicated that Groves suffered minor injuries, but he passed away from those injuries four days later.

No one was inside the home at the time of the crash.
