Man gets life sentence for murder of man found in lake

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- One of the suspects convicted of killing a Portsmouth man has been sentenced to life in prison.

Nathaniel McCoy was found guilty in the death of Donta Williams earlier this year.

Williams' family had reported the 22-year-old missing in January of 2015. His body was found in a Suffolk lake that March.

Our partners at the Virginian-Pilot report McCoy admitted to detectives that he put a pocket saw around Williams' neck, while another man beat Williams' friend with a hammer.

On Monday, McCoy was sentenced to five years on a charge of shoot, stab, or cut, 10 years on the charge of conspiracy, and a life sentence for murder.

Two other suspects took plea deals in the case.
