Newport News rape suspect arrested and charged

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A Newport News rape suspect is behind bars.

On October 16, around 4 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 10000 block of Warwick Boulevard in reference to an assault.

A 29-year-old victim from Hampton said she was raped in the suspect's van just a few blocks away. The victim managed to escape from the van and ran to the 7-Eleven on Warwick Boulevard.

The victim described the suspect as a black man approximately 6' to 6' 1" with a thin beard and some facial hair. He had a white minivan.

After further investigation, detectives secured warrants against Vincent Irvin Moore, 54,  and on October 30 he was taken into custody and charged.

Moore was charged with Abduction to Gain Pecuniary Benefit (extortion), Abduction by Force, Intimidation or Deception, two counts of Rape, Intercourse by force/ threat/ intimidation, and Sodomy by Force of victim helplessness and Probation, a violation on a Felony Offense.
