Passenger riding in vehicle shot in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Someone in a car opened fire on another vehicle, injuring the person in the passenger's seat.

Newport News police said it happened in the area of 39th Street and Chestnut Avenue around 10:30 Sunday night.

The 21-year-old man told detectives a dark colored Dodge sedan pulled-up to the vehicle he was riding in, and started shooting.

One of the bullets struck the victim in his left calf.  He's expected to be OK.
