Suspects rob man at gunpoint and steal his car in Norfolk neighborhood

13News Now Jemie Lee has the story

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) - Detectives are looking for two men who robbed a man at gunpoint in front of his house last night.

Police say the suspects stole personal items and the victim's car keys, then they reportedly stole his car. It happened in the 8300 block of Guam Pkwy in the Whitehurst Farm neighborhood shortly after midnight.

“Recently it has been pretty bad. It's kind of nerve-wracking. It's very upsetting,” neighbor Danielle Bush said.

As upsetting as it is, Danielle isn’t surprised. She’s one of several neighbors in the community who recently had their cars broken into.

“My garage and my car got broken into about two weeks ago. My whole garage was broken into-- the door was -- they crowbarred it open,” she said.

13News Now checked Norfolk's crime map and found 11 incidents of car larcenies, burglaries, and vandalism from October through November.

“It’s kind of leaving spouses uneasy because a lot of the military members are out to sea and deployed,” Danielle said.

Being in a military neighborhood, Danielle believes the thieves are after something specific.

“We’re assuming that they're looking for military items-- like military weapons.”

She says families are starting to put up security cameras, and they're looking into starting a neighborhood watch program. She's also noticed an increase in patrol officers at night, but thinks something more needs to be done, because the crimes just keep happening.

“It’s very emotional considering it's right around the holidays too,” she said.
