WICIMOCO Co., Md (Delmarva Now) -- A Maryland man was charged with animal cruelty after police say he severely beat his girlfriend's bulldog.
James Michael Watson, 37, of Odenton, is being held without bond at Wicomico County Detention Center after police say he beat the black-and-white bulldog, named Brooklyn, because he was jealous of the attention his girlfriend gave the dog.
The incident happened at about 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30 at a residence in Salisbury, according to the Maryland State Police.
The dog suffered significant injuries to its left eye and its nose, and a 2-inch laceration to the top of its head, police said.
The dog received immediate medical care from Healing Hands Animal Hospital, which retained custody of Brooklyn after treatment.
Watson was taken into custody after troopers from the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack responded to a report of animal cruelty in the 410 block of Dogwood Drive.
He is charged with two counts of animal cruelty and malicious destruction of property over $1,000.
