Police: Fugitive barricaded himself in residence in Newport News, arrested

A man has been arrested after a Tactical Operations Unit was called to help

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Newport News Police and a Tactical Operations Unit arrested a fugitive who has barricaded himself in a residence Thursday night.

Police observed the 30-year-old fugitive around 7:30 p.m.

The suspect has 6 warrants with the Newport News Police Department.

The man barricaded himself in a residence in the 400 block of Savage Drive, and at 8:56 p.m. the tactical team was called.

The tactical situation ended peacefully.  The suspect, Khalil James, was taken into custody without incident. 

Khalil faces charges of Abduction, Assault & Battery, Brandishing a firearm, Failure to Appear, Capias, and a Civil Summons.

No further information was released.
