Police need public's help to identify shooting suspect

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police in Hampton are asking for the public's help to identify the person or people involved in a shooting that sent a man to the hospital.

The shooting happened around 12:16 p.m. Thursday in the 3300 block of Marlborough Court.  Arriving officers found a 23-year-old man suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say the victim had been sitting outside of a residence when a black SUV rolled up and at least one occupant fired several shots at him.  The victim was hit once.

The black SUV is described as having chrome rims, and was last seen driving northbound on Breckinridge Court. No suspect description is available.

Anyone with information that will assist police is encouraged to contact the Hampton Police Division at 727-6111 or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.  Tipsters can also send an anonymous tip via text message to the Crime Line by texting "HAMPTONPDTIPS plus your tip" to 274637 (CRIMES).  Crime Line callers remain anonymous and never appear in court.  If a Crime Line call results in an arrest, the caller is eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
