Police searching for Hampton bank robber

HAMPTON, Va. (WVEC) -- Police are asking for the public's help to identify a man who robbed a bank in Hampton on Monday morning.

The robbery happened shortly after 9:30 a.m. at the Old Point National Bank in the 1st block of West Mellen Street. Police say the suspect entered the bank, passed a note demanding money, and then fled on foot after receiving an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect is described as a black male between the ages of 20 and 25, 5'9" weighing about 130 pounds, and was last seen wearing a black hat, white shirt, and silver shorts.

Anyone with information that will assist police is encouraged to contact the Hampton Police Division at 757–727–6111 or the Crime Line at 1–888-LOCK-U-UP. Tipsters can also send an anonymous tip via text message to the Crime Line by texting “HAMPTONPDTIPS plus your tip” to 274637 (CRIMES). Crime Line callers remain anonymous and never appear in court. If a Crime Line call results in an arrest, the caller is eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
