Shot fired into Newport News home

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Newport News Police say no one was hurt after a bullet struck a residence.

It happened early Sunday morning in the 400 block of Manor Road. Police were called to the area in reference to the sound of gun shots being heard. A 40-year-old Newport News woman told officers the sliding glass door to her home had been broken.

Officers found a bullet had struck the glass and was lodged in an interior wall. The victim had been sleeping at the time, and was awoken by the loud noise. No one was injured by the gunfire.

Officers found a spent casing in the area of the dumpsters in front of the residence.

The investigation is ongoing.
