Suffolk Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief arrested, charged in hit-and-run

Battalion Chief Owen Thomasson with Suffolk Fire and Rescue has been arrested for driving while intoxicated

SUFFOLK, Va, (WVEC) -- The Suffolk Fire and Rescue Battalion Chief Owen Thomasson has been arrested.

He has been charged with felony hit and run-- personal injury, felony destroying property, two counts of misdemeanor destroying property, misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, misdemeanor failing to report accident, misdemeanor false police report, and misdemeanor obstruction of justice.

Thomasson, 44, was arrested and charged on Thursday. He was not on duty at the time of the accident.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on October 14, 2017. A citizen called dispatch around 11:00 p.m. to report a pick-up truck had struck a utility pole in the 800 block of Wilroy Road and left the scene. 

Officers arrived on the scene and found two utility poles, two mailboxes, and a bush had been hit. The vehicle in question was located unoccupied at the intersection of East Constance Road and North Main Street. 

Upon completion of the investigation into the incident, Suffolk Police forwarded the case to the Commonwealth’s Attorney for review.
