Suffolk man assaulted by acquaintances

SUFFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Two men were arrested in Suffolk after assaulting an acquaintance.

On Wednesday at 1:11 a.m., police received a call that a man had been assaulted at a residence in the 1700 block of Martin Road in the Eclipse community.

The victim, Charles Arthur Barnes, 22, of Suffolk had to be transported to a local hospital. He had non-life threatening injuries.

Barnes's acquaintances, Jacob Richard Zeno, 19, and James Kenneth Rhoten, Jr., 29, have been arrested.

Zeno was charged with Malicious Wounding and Shoot, Cut, Stab, or Wound in Commission of a Felony.

Rhoten Jr. was originally charged with Simple Assault, but after further investigation he has been charged with Direct Indictment on additional charges of Aggravated Malicious Wounding, Conspiracy to Commit a Felony, and Shoot, Cut, Stab or Wound in Commission of a Felony.

Rhoten is currently being held without bond at the Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
