Windshield shattered after car drives through underpass; police seek witnesses

The driver thinks someone threw something from the underpass on Monticello Avenue near 21st Street.

NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk police are asking for witnesses to come forward after someone driving through an underpass claimed a large object hit their windshield, shattering it.

It happened around 10 p.m. Saturday night at the Monticello underpass near 21st St. A picture of the damage was posted to the Nextdoor neighborhood app, warning other drivers.

The driver and passenger told police they believe someone threw something from the underpass---they thought it was a large rock.

Police were called and officers began looking for the object but they couldn't find it. The driver and passenger said they didn't actually see someone throwing the object. Because detectives didn't have substantial evidence, they classified the case as vandalism.

No one was hurt.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Norfolk police at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
