Worker at North Carolina nursing home accused of abuse

SNOW HILL, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in North Carolina have accused a worker at a nursing home of abusing a patient.
Greene County Sheriff Lemmie Smith told local media outlets that 21-year-old Tiara Shackleford is charged with felony patient abuse and neglect and misdemeanor assault of a handicapped person. Shackleford was arrested on Friday.
Smith said the charges involve an 87-year-old victim. The sheriff said his department began an investigation on Thanksgiving weekend after the family discovered the abuse.
Shackleford is free on a $25,000 secured bond. It's not known if she has an attorney.
