Dallas cancer patient determined to fight disease with dance

Dallas cancer patient video gone viral

Ana-Alecia Ayala was determined to not let cancer drag her down.

It has been a long year since her diagnosis in December of 2015. She has many reasons to fight but the two most important reasons are her husband and daughter.

"You're only as sick as you feel so I was determined to not feel sick," Ayala said.

Ayala told News 8 that she was first diagnosed in December with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer that had originated in her uterus.

Ayala has been getting treatments at Baylor Dallas since January of 2016.

"I just decided I'm not gonna let this get the best of me," she said.

She lost her father to brain cancer and that was tough. So Ana-Alecia told News 8 that she was preparing herself for a fight.

Ayala says she's overwhelmed by the amount of support she has received from family and friends. But she did not expect to get a challenge from her good friend Danielle.

"It's more of her telling me you're gonna dance, I'm gonna make you dance and we're gonna have a good time," she said.

In the video that has been seen and shared thousands of times Ayala is in her hospital gown dancing with Danielle to the song "Juju on that Beat."

It is seemingly a dance-off to show cancer who's boss.

"Oh yes I've seen the dance. Many a time I've seen the dance and my back hurts every time I watch it," Nurse Deseree Cook of Baylor Dallas said.

Ana-Alecia hopes people watch it and get strength from it.

"Honestly when I'm laughing and having a good time I don't even worry about the cancer," she said.
There will be more chemo treatments and likely more dances too. "You're only as sick as you feel," she said.
