Murder victim's documentary premieres in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- A documentary partially made by a man who was later murdered, premiered Wednesday.

Charles Sharpe was murdered in May 2016. He was a father who spent most of his time working to keep young people away from violence. He was shot in the East End of the city, and died from his injuries a few days later.

Sharpe was working on a documentary with a group of young people from that part of the city when he was killed. Other people continued the work, and the completed project premiered Wednesday evening.

The documentary, 'Did Anybody Ask Us' is a 45-minute long film that was produced by and features local youth, who are also members of the non-profit Future Actors and Movie Makers (FAMM).

"He shot a lot of the film too, and that was a big thing for me to get used to," said Tristan Jackson, a friend of Sharpe. "I used a lot of the old footage when we're putting it together, a lot of the old footage that he actually shot too."
