Fundraiser set for ill Virginia State Police employee

A fundraiser to benefit Tonya Blake, a full-time employee of the Virginia State Police who is undergoing testing for a life-threatening illness, will be held at 11a.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at the Parksley Fire Department.

Blake also works part time with Eastern Shore 911 and is a volunteer EMT with the Onancock Fire Department.

“As she is a single mom with two kids that works two jobs to support them, I want to help her any way I can,” said 1st Sgt. B.E. Jeff Jones, area commander of the Virginia State Police.

The fundraiser will include a benefit dinner, silent auction and cornhole tournament. Plates will include grilled or barbecue chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, a roll and drink for $10.

For more information, to donate items for the silent auction or to make a monetary donation please contact Jones at 757-787-5813 or Crystal Simpson, dispatcher supervisor, at 757-787-0911.
