VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Organizations around the city are asking for the public's help getting word out to victims of Hurricane Matthew who may need assistance, or those who would like to help.
If you need help, please consider contacting one of the following organizations:
- Foodbank Partner Agencies of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore
- Operation Blessing
The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore are members of Feeding America. Their goal is to provide food for hungry people through the Southeastern Region of the state and on the Eastern Shore. The Foodbank has provided over 313 million pounds of food throughout the 4,745 square mile service area. They provide help in Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Franklin, and Virginia Beach. They also help people in the counties of Southampton, Northampton, Sussex, Isle of Wight, and Accomack.

If you need help packing, or salvaging personal belongings, or assistance removing debris, contact Operation Blessing. Those who need assistance are asked to fill out a work request for free volunteer help. All residents will need to apply in person, and sign a release at the Operation Blessing Mobile Command Center.

Those who are interested in helping the communities affected by the storm can donate food, clothing, or their time at various places.
People may drop off non-perishable food at their local Virginia Beach Fire Stations between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. If you would like to learn where your closest Virginia Beach Fire Station is please visit the Virginia Beach website here.
Clothing may be donated at local Salvation Army locations. There are two locations within Virginia Beach. One location is at 2093 General Booth Blvd., and the other is at 1136 Lynnhaven Parkway. Operation Blessing is also looking for volunteers. If you would like to donate your time, volunteers are meeting a CBN at 8 a.m. for registration and orientation, Monday through Saturday. Due to safety reasons, volunteers are asked to wear rubber boots and long pants.
