Local foodbank hopes pictures of empty shelves will inspire others to donate

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WVEC) -- The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore are in dire need of donations.

Pictures shared by the non-profit organization show tons of empty shelves just waiting to be filled.

The summer is a slow time of year for food donations, but the amount of people who are in need doesn't change.

The Foodbank is asking that the community comes together to host food and fund drives as well as donate.

If you are interested in hosting a Food and Fund Drive in your community, visit The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore's website.

Collected items should be dropped off at the foodbank's warehouse at 800 Tidewater Drive between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Volunteers can also host online food and fund drives. These online drives can turn a $10 donation into enough food for 30 nutritious meals. To learn more about online food and fund drives, visit the Online Food and Fund Drive Foodbank website.

According to the Foodbank Online Food and Fund Drive website, the top food drive has raised just over $2,700.

If  you are interested in donating to The Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, the non-profit has a complete shopping list available:
